VIRGINIA LODGE INSTALLATION
WHERE TEXAS CRAFTSMANSHIP MEETS THE VIRGINIA OUTDOORS

PROJECT DETAILS

Some projects are memorable because of the pieces we build. Others are memorable because of where those pieces end up. This project took the Tin Roof team from Texas to the rolling woods of Virginia, where a private hunting lodge was taking shape among towering trees, peaceful water views, and plenty of room for gathering with family and friends. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this wasn't just another house. It was a destination—a place designed for slowing down, sharing stories, and spending time outdoors.
Our role was to create custom furniture that felt right at home in the setting. Pieces built with character, purpose, and the durability to serve generations of hunters, family members, and guests for years to come. And while the scenery may have been different from the Texas ranches we often work on, the goal remained exactly the same: build something authentic, timeless, and made to be lived in.
A Front-Row Seat to the View
One of the first spaces that draws your attention at the lodge is the expansive outdoor porch. Overlooking the water and surrounded by nature, it was designed to be more than just an outdoor seating area—it was designed to be a gathering place. To anchor the space, we crafted two custom 10-foot cedar farmhouse tables along with four matching benches. Built from solid cedar and designed for outdoor living, these pieces provide plenty of room for meals, conversations, card games, and everything in between.
What we love most about cedar is its ability to blend durability with natural beauty. The grain patterns, knots, and organic movement throughout the wood create a one-of-a-kind appearance that can't be replicated. Whether it's coffee before sunrise or stories shared after a day in the woods, these tables were built for moments that matter.

Letting the Wood Tell the Story

Inside the lodge, natural materials continue to take center stage. For the dining area, we built a custom live-edge dining table from sycamore wood, paired with matching chairs and a coordinating bench. The slab itself is full of character—showcasing natural grain movement, color variation, and an organic live edge that preserves the shape and story of the tree it came from.
Rather than competing with the architecture of the home, the table complements it. The warm tones of the wood bring a sense of comfort and authenticity to the space while creating a focal point that immediately draws people together. It's the type of table designed for family dinners, holiday gatherings, hunting stories, and memories that will be shared around it for decades.
The Piece Everyone Talks About
Every project has one feature that tends to steal the spotlight. For this lodge, it was the custom pecan bar.
Designed specifically for the space, the bar combines everyday functionality with handcrafted detail. Open shelving provides easy access and display space, built-in wine storage keeps everything organized, and custom curved shelving adds a unique design element that immediately catches your eye. The curved molded shelves became one of our favorite details of the entire project. They soften the overall design while showcasing the craftsmanship that goes into every custom build. Crafted from beautiful pecan wood, the finished piece feels substantial, inviting, and completely at home within the lodge's interior. It's the kind of feature that naturally becomes the gathering point whenever guests arrive.

Built for Weekend Guests and Long Hunting Seasons

A hunting lodge needs plenty of room for family and friends. To maximize sleeping space while maintaining the overall aesthetic of the home, we designed and built two custom solid wood bunk beds specifically for the lodge. Built with durability in mind, the bunk system provides practical sleeping accommodations without sacrificing style. Clean lines, quality craftsmanship, and natural wood finishes allow the space to feel warm and welcoming while standing up to years of use.
We also crafted custom end tables and additional furnishings to complete the rooms, creating a cohesive look throughout the property. The result is a space that's both hardworking and comfortable—exactly what a lodge should be.

Not Your Typical Texas Installation
One thing we definitely didn't expect? More than a foot of snow waiting for us when we arrived. As the Tin Roof crew pulled up to the property, the roads, driveway, and surrounding landscape were covered in over 12 inches of fresh snow. Fortunately, four-wheel drive and a little determination helped us navigate the conditions and get every piece delivered safely. Now, being a Texan, let's just say this wasn't exactly business as usual. Most Texans know that even the possibility of snow tends to make us nervous. So unloading custom furniture in a Virginia winter storm wasn't something we encounter every day. But that's part of what makes projects like this memorable.
Whether we're delivering furniture to a Texas ranch, a family lake house, or a hunting lodge tucked away in the Virginia woods, we're committed to seeing every project through from start to finish. And thankfully, the snow made for some pretty incredible views once everything was installed.
The Tin Roof Approach
What made this project special wasn't just the custom furniture or the beautiful setting. It was how naturally everything worked together. From the cedar outdoor tables overlooking the water to the sycamore dining table, pecan bar, custom bunk beds, and handcrafted accents throughout the lodge, every piece was designed to feel connected to the environment around it.
At Tin Roof, we believe great craftsmanship starts with great materials. We work with natural hardwoods because every board carries its own character, story, and personality. Instead of hiding those details, we celebrate them. That's what transforms furniture into something more meaningful. Pieces that feel timeless. Pieces that belong. Pieces that are built to be used. Whether we're building for a Texas ranch or a Virginia hunting lodge, our mission remains the same: create handcrafted furniture that brings people together and stands the test of time.
